Making 3D a Snap!

New snapping options in VectorWorks make working in 3D easier. Now you can snap to circle centers, hole centers, edges and edge centers in a 3D view. These new snap points reduce the amount of flipping back and forth from a 2D view by allowing you to model with accuracy in 3D.

Despite the advantages to these extra snap points, many users don’t know how to turn them on. To do so, simply double-click the Snap to Object constraint on the Constraints palette and check Snap to edge points in the dialog.

Used in conjunction with the Multiple Divisions feature of the Snap to Distance constraint, you can specify the relative position of a snap point along a 3D edge. In the dialog, check Multiple Divisions and enter the fraction or percentage you would like to snap to along the edge. The fraction 1/4 is entered in the example below.

The “Along Line” snap appears 1/4 of the way along the 3D edge.
